To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, \VILLIAM ROGERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and original Design for Spoons and Forks, of which the following is a specification, taken in connection with the accompanying illustrations, forming a part of the same, in which- Figure 1 represents the front of a spoon ornamented in accordance with my design. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a rear View of the same, showing an ornament f, in high relief, affixed to the bowl.
The front or obverse side of the handle, as shown in Fig. 1, is ornamented at the tip thereof by a scroll a, from which starts aleafscroll I), having leaves substantially evenly divided on each side of its axis. Opposite the upper end of the leaf-scroll bthere is a smaller scroll c, which nearly fills the space between the scrolls a and b. Upon the back or reverse side of the handle there is, about the middle of the distance between the ends of said handle, a leaf and scroll ornament d, which covers about one-half of the handle,
and at a point adjacent to the bowl there is a bunch of leaves 6, from which the stem of a scroll fapparently starts; but said scroll, at the back of the bowl, at the bend thereof, is in high relief.
That I claim, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is-- 1. The design herein for a spoon, having the scroll a at the tip of the handle shown, from which starts a leaf-scroll I), having leaves substantially evenly divided on each side of their branch, and a scroll c on one side thereof, as described and shown, upon the front or obverse side of the handle.
2. In a design for a spoon herein shown and described, the back or reverse side having an ornament 6 adjacent to its bowl and a scroll f in high relief upon the bend or base thereof, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
