Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES L. FOLSOM, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE HARTFORD CARPET COMPANY, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 19,065, dated April 30, 1889.
Application filed March 7, 1889. Serial No. 302,347- Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES L. FOLSOM, a citizen of the United States, residing in Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, which forms a part of the same.
The invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.
The accompanying photograph is a face view of a carpet showing my new design.
My design is composed of a body, A, and a border, B.
The body A contains several large figures. The figure c has agem-shaped center, around which are circularly-arranged ornamental fig ures having rounded outlines. The outer margin of the figure c is composed of irregular pointed ornaments. The figure d is shown partly at each side of the photograph. Its center ornament is gem-shaped. Irregular conventionalized leaf forms radiate from this center, and a series of long irregular pointed figures extend outward from these leaf forms. The figure c has a center consisting of a conventionalized flower form, and the outer margin has irregular rounded projections. The figure f hasa gem-shaped center, about which is a series of irregular coral-like forms. On one side of the figure, and projecting from these coral forms, are several long irregular pointed figures. The figure g is a double figure. The larger portion is a conventionalized flower form having radiating leaves with curving points and between these points other 40 radiating figures having rounded projections, and the smaller portion is a conventionalized flower form circular in general outline, but partly concealed by the larger portion of the figure. The figure h is a conventionalized fiower form, circular in general outline and having around it a series of irregular rounded projections. The figures d and h are placed together so as to form a double figure. Several smaller figures are interspersed among the larger figures, c, d, e, f, g, and h.
The border B contains several large figures and a few smaller ones interspersed between them, and has an inner and an outer margin composed of small gem-shaped and geometrical figures.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The design for carpets, consisting of the figures d and 71, substantially as shown.
2. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure f, substantially as shown.
3. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure g, substantially as shown.
4. The design for carpets, consisting of the body A, composed of the figures c, d, e, f, g, and h and the smaller figures, substantially as shown.
5. The design for carpets, consisting of the border B, substantially as shown.
6. The design for carpets, consisting of the body A, composed of the figures c, d, e, f, y, and h and the smaller figures, and the border B, substantially as shown.
