DESIGN FOR A BACK FOR BRUSHES OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 29,217, dated August 16, 1898.
Application filed July 23, 1898. Serial No. 686,738. Term of patent '7 years.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH EDWARD STRA- KER, J r. of North Attleborough, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Design for the Backs of Brushes or Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference be ing had to the accompanying drawing, which forms part of the same.
In the drawing the figure is a plan VlGW of the back of a brush or hand-mirror contain ing my design.
A is the back, and B is the handle, of the article to be ornamented.
The ornamentation of the handle 13 begins with a gadroon edge 0, with beads, and above the same is an acanthus-leaf D, from which extend upwardly two opposite foliated scrolls E, each of which incloses graduated beads F, and located within said beads is an oblong shield G. To the outside of said scrolls on each side is a flower 11, above which is lo cated the foliated scrolls 1. Above the upper edges of the scrolls E is a shield J, on which is placed the leaf J, flowers J and the leaf J On opposite sides of said shield J is a double line K K, inclosing graduated beads K From the upper ends of said lines K K on each side there extend foliated scrolls L, surmounted by the flower L, and above said flower is located a gadroon edge M, with beads, on each side of which edge is the foliated scroll M, and above said scroll are foliated scrolls M which terminate in flowers and leaves M Over the center of said gadroon edge is an acanthus-leaf N, from which extend two opposite foliated scrolls N, between thebranches of which and the foliated scrolls N are graduated beads N Iuclosed within said scrolls and heads is a shield O, with three upwardly-extending arms, with beads 0 surrounding the shield and the edges of the arms, with two opposite foliated scrolls 0 around the central arm.
A series of foliated scrolls O extend from the upper ends of the side arms and forni the letter S, between which and the foliated scrolls O is a lily O and flower 0 one on each side. Above the tops of the scrolls O is an acanthus-leaf P, surmounted by the gadroon edge Q, with beads, which forms the edge of the design at the top of the brush.
