J. L. POLSOM.
CARPET.
No. 18,148. Patented Mar. 6, 1888.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES L. FOLSOM, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE HARTFORD CARPET COMPANY, OF HARTFORD, CONN ECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No.18,148, dated March 5. 1888.
Application filed January 28, 1888. Serial 110,262,074. Term of patent 3Q years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES L. FoLsoM, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, which forms a part of the same.
The invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.
The accompanying photograph is a face view of a carpet showing my new design.
My design consists of conventionalized flower and leaf forms or groups connected with one another by a broad angular stem-work. The large leaf forms or groups are made up of an assemblage of smaller leaf and geometrical forms. The center of these large leaf groups consists of a compact mass of small leaf forms and angular border-work or cellular work. Around the edges of these large groups are geometrical forms, generally rectangular in shape, projecting out from the group and separated from one another. At the top of one of the groups is a conventionalized leaf form bending down around the side of the group. The flower forms are round or square and are scattered here and there over the design. In some cases geometrical forms are connected with the flower forms. Between these flower and leaf forms are small stems or sprays.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for carpets, consisting of the design substantially as shown.
