JAMES L. FOLSOM, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE HARTFORD CARPET COMPANY, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,145, dated March 6, 1888. Application filed January 2d, 1888 Serial No. 9.62.069. Term of patent 3Q years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES L. FoLsoM, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the ac companying photograph, which forms a part of the same.
The invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.
lhe accompanying photograph is a face view of a carpet showing my new design.
My design consists of a succession of open parts or spaces, which are ornamented alternately with cloud efl'ects and water eifects,
which are skirted or inclosed with flower and leaf forms arranged and supported for the 20 most part on arching branches or stems. Among the other flower and leaf forms are tall stems and tall narrow leaves, the former bearing flower forms resembling cat tails. In the central opening are a number of iiower 25 forms resemblinglily-pads. Theother branches or stems are covered with long narrow leaves and short broad or triangular leaves interspersed irregularly among one another.

The design for carpets, consisting of the design substantially as shown.
