JAMES L. FOLSOM, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE HARTFORD CARPET COMPANY, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,151, dated March 6. 1888.
Application filed January 26, 1888. Serial No. 262,077. Term of patent 3} years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be'it known that I, JAMES L. FOLSOM, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the ac companying photograph, which forms a part of the same.
The invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets orsimilar fabrics; and it consistsin the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.
The accompanying photograph is a face view of a carpet showing my new design.
My design consists, first, of groups or clusters of circular or star shaped flower forms partly inclosed or surrounded with leaf forms.
From these groups small stems project bearing small leaves. In the spaces between the 20 groups is a succession of scroll forms, producing the efiectofshadow or border work or ornamentation. In these intervening spaces, also, and connected generally with the scroll-work, are irregular masses of geometrical ornamentation, sometimes resembling cellular work, sometimes resembling lattice-work.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for carpets, consisting sign substantially as shown.
