UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EUGENE URCNVE, ()l BROOKLYN, NEW' YORK,
HIGGINS ARlE'l COMPANY, OF NElV YORK, N.
ASSIGNOR TO THE E. S.
DESIGN FOR CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 25,497, dated May 12, 1896.
Apnlication filed A ril 11,1896. Serial No. 587,210. Term of patent 3% years.
To (all whom it may concern.-
lie it known that I, EL'oExE CRowE, acilizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Carpet, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof, which represents a face view of a carpet in which the new design is embodied.
The invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets and similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel formation of the figures, asherein shown and claimed.
The body A and the border also, if one is used, is decorated with linear foliated scrolls. In detail each linear scroll figure comprises an arched foliated scroll B, having one end carried well down below the body and returned upon itself to present a folded leaf 1), the folded leaf having floral decorations, as has likewise the body portion of the scroll, and beneath the arched floral decorated portion of the scroll a plain appendage scroll 1) appears, and the opposite end of the scroll B is curled upward in a measure above the bod of the same. A second scroll L in the chain forming the aforesaid linear scroll is placed adjacent to the curled portion of the scroll l3 and its body approximates a circle and is of foliate design, and an offshoot d from the body of this scroll extends downward to a point be low the adjacent end of the adjacent scroll 1%, the said appendage being of substantially cornucopia shape, and flowers are represented as falling from the appendage. At the opposite side of the circular body of the scroll (I a second appendage d is formed, which is in the nature of a coil, and flowers appear where this coil appendage connects with the body. At the top portion of the circular body of the scroll C an ornamental cornucopia figure d is formed apparently seated in foliage, and this upper cornucopia figure is represented as containing flora.
I claim- The design for carpets, substantially as shown and described.
EUGENE CROWE.
