(Application filed June 23, 1902.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\VILLIAM F. MARSHALL, OF NORTH ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS,
ASSIGNOR TO HENRY H. CURTIS, OF NORTH ATTLEBORO, MASSA- CHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION"forming part of Design No. 35,997, dated. August 12, 1902. Application filed June 23.1902. Serial No. l12,939. Term of patent 7 years. I
To (071/ whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, WILLIAM F. MARSHALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a certain new, original, and ornamental Design for the Handle of a Spoon or Similar Article, of which the following is a specification.
In the drawings forming a part of this application, Figure l'is the obverse of a spoonhandle embodying my new design, and Fig. 2 the reverse of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the views.
The leading or material feature of my design consists of the contour and ornamentation hereinafter described.
The contour .of the handle consists of a semicircular crest A, a large swelled head B, a double-swell body 0, a slender stem D, having a slight swell E near its base.
Upon the head and crest of the handle is the representation of two composite or ornamental flowers a and b, the radiating petals of the former overlying the major portion of the petals of I). The body portion of the handle bears also the representation of two flowers c and d, similar, respectively, in general appearance to a and 1), except that the flower d has its petals directed exclusively upward. Intermediate the flowers cl and b are upwardly-(1irected foliates e and a stem f. Extending below the flower c are the stalks g and h, which support the flowers c and d. The swelled portion E of the handle is ornamented by the representation of a flower i, surmounting a floral cluster j and surmounted by a floral series 70, which terminates in foliates Z in the upper portion of the stem of the handle D.
The obverse of the handle discloses upon its crest and upper head portion a large ornamental flower m, with downwardly-directed petals. Covering a portion of this flower are two flowerets n. Springing from each margin of, the upper portion of the handle is a row of foliates o p. A cluster of foliatessat the base of the handle completes the ornamentation.
It is evident that my design is also applicable to the handles of forks, knives, and similar articles.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The ornamental design for the handle of a spoon, or similar article, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM F. MARSHALL.
