DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 17,782, dated October 11, 1887.
Application filed September 8, 1887. Serial No. 249,193. Term olpatent 3% years.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN NEIL, of Broolc lyu, county ofKings, and State of New York, liaveinvented a new and original Design for 5 Carpets, of which the following is a specification, reference beinghad to the accompanying photograph, which forms a part of the same.
The invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consistsin the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.
The accompanying photograph is a face View of a carpet showing my new design.
[5 My design is composed of a body part, A,
and a border, B.
The body is made up ofindistinctly marked groups or masses ofliower and leafforms with occasional geometrical forms interspersed.
The larger masses contain at one end some prominent circular flowers with scalloped edges, surrounded by a body of small leaves with a few scroll forms among them. In the middle of the group or mass are several large oval forms composed of radiating leaves surrounded with smaller ornamental work. A cluster of buds is supported at the top. At the other end of the group are several large geo metrical forms. The smaller groups are composed of a numherofcircular forms withleaves 3o radiating from one side and slender stems supporting buds above the points of the leaves.
The border B has an inner margin ornamented with broad leaves inclosed within a conventional stem-work. Next to the margin 5 is a row of blocks or spaces ornamented with circular flowers with scalloped edges, or with pointed radiating leaves and other small leaf and flower forms. These blocks are surmounted with conical masses of ornamentation 0 having a double-scroll form at the base and two converging leaves or stems at the top. The rest of the border is covered with small ornamental figures.
\Vhat I claim as new-,and desire to secure by 15 Letters Patent, is-
1. In a design for carpets, the body A, suhstantially as shown.
2. In a design for carpets, thcborder B, substantially as shown.
3. The design for carpets, consisting of the body A and border B, substantially as shown.
