A ppliration [ilrd September 'lrst.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, Annie a L. IIALLHU r, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for larpets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the ac conipanying photograph which forms a part of the same.
The invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.
The accompanying photograph is a face view of a carpet showing my new design.
My design is composed of several [igu res or groups, which are repeated in succession over the face ofthe carpet upon any suitable ground.
Figure A is a group of leaves and flowers arranged upon a curving stein, giving the en tire group a circular shape, with the central portion somewhat open. At the lower side is a thick cluster of leaves inclosing groups of small star-shaped flower forms, also a stem bearing a number of similar flower forms overlying large leaves. In the upper part of the figure smaller leaves and similar star-shaped flowers are scattered along the main stem.

Here and there in the group are leaves ornamented with open-work.
Figure 13 consists of a mass of leaves over which lie a number of genrshapcd flowers. Above are larger leaves, and from one side a. long slender stem projects, curving around at the top and supporting a large flower at the 35 side and at the top a row of small indented leaves.
Figure 0 consists of a number of large leaves supported on a stem-work and forming a cen' ter, which is partly encircled by genrshaped 0 flowers. Along the rest of the stenuahove and below, are leaves and flowers.
Between the groups small ornamental square figures are scattered irregularly. Some ofthese small tigu res are connected with and form part 5 of the large groups. Others are separate and distinct from the groups, occurring in the intervals between them.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- 0 The design for carpets, consisting of the design substantially as shown.
