To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES H.y ALEXANDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Design for Trunk Irons; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification, in which the figure is a plan illustrating my design.
My design relates to the shape or contour of the iron, and to the configuration of the surface of the latter; and it consists in such shape and configuration.
The outline comprises top and bottom ogee lines, which gradually approach and meet at the extremities of the irons.
The configuration consists, essentially, of a diamond having four crosses whose stems or standards radiate from the forks of an X, two of the forks of the diamond having atrefoilfor spear-head figure springing therefrom, with a foliated figure or flower on either side of the stem or standard.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, which illustrates my design, Ais a trunk-iron, and B and Bthe top and bottom edges or outlines thereof. Each of these ed ges is formed of a series of short curves,b b,which are joined and gradually approach and meet at the extremities CO. At or aboutthe middle is adiamondshaped figure, D, the center of which is occupied by an X, d, from the forks of which radially project four crosses, d d', the X and crosses presenting substantially the appearance of four anchors radially arranged and touching at their fluke ends.
Fromtwo of the points of the diamond there spring or project trefoil or spear head iigures e e, and on either side thereof are foliated figures or flowers e e.
