UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY H. HOLLY, OI NEW YORIQN. Y.
DESIGN FOR A BlLLlARD-TABLE LEG.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10.638, dated April 16,1878; application filed March 23, 1E78. [Term of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Beitknown that I, HENRY HUDSON HOLLY, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have originated a new Design for the Legs of Billiard-Tables, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification.
In the drawing, A represents a block, square or of polygonal contour, which, by preference, is located between the lower surface of the body of the table and the top of the leg proper.
The essential members of the new design or pattern for the leg are two beaded portions, nearly cylindrical in general appearance, an interposed plain cylindrical member, and a foot portion.
By preference, a very short cylindrical memher or a disk-like portion, B, is arranged between the upper end of the main portion of the leg and the lower surface of the block A, beneath which comes the upper beaded member C. This member, it will be seen, is in configuration a short cylinder,havin g its ends rounded and its periphery beaded, or made to present the appearance of a number of parallel grooves about equidistant. This portion of the leg is of greater diameter than any other part, and beneath it is arranged a very short plain cylinder or disk-like member, D, which serves to separate the portion 0 from a lower beaded member, E. This last-named member, like portion 0, is about cylindrical in its general contour, but it is considerably larger than the part 0, though of less diameter than the latter, and having its lower corner or edge rounded oft a little difierently, as shown, and
the curvature at the lower part runs some little ways up into the beaded part.
The lowest member of the design is the foot portion F, which, as seen, resembles in con tour somewhat an inverted frustum of a cone with a molded pattern between its top and the lower part of portion E, and having, by preference, two or three beads turned on it at or near its lowest portion.
The striking features or essential elements of the new design are the nearly cylindrical beaded portions 0 and E, separated by a plain or other short member, and a foot-piece, the whole arranged to present substantially the pattern or appearance, as to shape, illustrated. Of course, the size and number of the beads on either member may be increased or diminished without changing materially the general appearance of the leg-pattern, and the proportions and the exact curvatures of each member may be also varied without making any material change in the presented design or configuration.
What I claim as my invention is- The design for a billiard-table leg composed essentially of the following members, namely: A main upper beaded portion, (J, a lower cylindrical and centrally-beaded portion, E, with an interposed reduced member, D, and footpiece F, the whole arranged to present substantiallythe appearanoedescribed, and shown in the accompanying illustration.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 8th day of March, 1878.
HENRY HUDSON HOLLY. {L. s}
