DESlGN FOR A BlLLlARD-TABLE LEG.

Specification forming part of Design No. 10,637, dated April 16, 1878; application filed March 23, 1878. [Term of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HUGE W. COLLENDER, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have originated a new Design for Billiard-Table Legs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification.

A represents a square block or lintel on the top of the leg, and upon which rests the base of the table-body.

The leg is composed of four principal parts or members, that go to make up the new configuration and design, viz: an upper member, B, which is in contour nearly a short cylinder, with its upper and lower edges rounded oil, and its face or periphery beaded or composed of numerous circular beads, as illustrated; a plain short cylindrical member, 0 a member, D, resembling that marked B, except that it is about twice as high and of little less diameter, but having combined with or in it a plain cylindrical central portion, E, in lieu of having its greater periphery all beads, like the member B; and a foot-piece or member, F, of about the configuration shown.

Between the top of the upper member B and the bottom of block or lintel A is a very short plain turned portion, 9, which, however, effects the general design very little, though it makes perhaps a more desirable finish and joint between the upper main portion B and the square block A, on which the table rests, than would be made by letting the block A come directly down onto the top of member B.

be beautified by the natural grain or mere staining, the larger cylindrical portion is relieved of the monotony to the eye of too much beading, and may have its plain cylindrical portion E ornamented by fancy veneering.

The foot member F, as usual, requires aless degree of superficial ornamentation and beauty of appearance than the members above, and the simple turned configuration therefore presented in the drawing marks an ending in comport with the other portions shown above this member.

The exact shapes and proportions relatively of the parts shown may of course be varied without materially changing the design presented, and the members of beads in the several parts may be varied without losing the essential features or real character of the design I have originated, the striking and novel character of which appears to be in the combination, with a small central portion, such as G, and a turned tapering foot portion, of the two members B and D, the upper one having its short periphery presenting a beaded appearance, while the other one, of less diameter, has its longer periphery made up of two sets of beads and an interposed plain cylindrical surface, capable of ornamentation by veneer- 111g.

What I claim as my invention is- The design for a billiard-table leg, composed, essentially, of a foot-piece, F, an upper beaded member, B, a lower beaded and plain member, D E, and an interposed reduced portion, 0, the whole arranged to present substantially the appearance described, and shown in the accompanying illustration.
