Description

CHARLES A. scHr-vmLan. Improvement in Pianostools N 119 793 Patented Oct. 10,1871; 1
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
IMPROVEMENT IN PIANO-STOOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,793, dated October 10, 1871.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES A. SoHrNDLER, of West Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Piano-Stools; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a side View of my improved pianostool. Fig. 2 is a detail horizontal section of the same taken through the line 00 m, Fig. 1, and looking upward.
My invention has for its object to improve the construction of piano-stools so as to make them stronger and more durable, and at the same time improve their appearance; and it consists in the metallic band and braces in combination with the lower end of the central pedestal and with the legs of the stool, as hereinafter more fully described.
A represents the top of the stool, to which are attached the upper ends of three or more legs, B, and to the center of which is attached the upper end of the pedestal O. D is the seat of the stool, to the center of the lower side of which. is attached the screw E, which passes through the center of the top A and into the pedestal O, which is made hollow to receive it. F is a metallic band fitted upon the lower end of the pedestal C, where it, is secured in place by a screw or spike, Gr, made with an ornamental head, and which is screwed or driven into the lower end of the pedestal 0. Upon the band F are cast three or more bracearms, H, as many as there are legs B, and which are made of such a length as to reach the legs B, to which their outer ends are secured by screws, as shown in Fig. 2. The brace-arms H are designed to be made with the same style of ornamentation as the other parts of the stool. The brace-arms H strengthen the legs B, and make the stool more firm and substantial while greatly improving its appearance.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The brand F and brace-arms B cast solid in one piece, in combination with the pedestal O and legs B, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 19th day of August, 1871.
