DESIGN FOR SWORD HILT AND SCABBARD.
Specification forming part of Design No. 6,953, dated October 7, 1873; application ied September 23, 1873. [Term of Patent 14 years] To all `zrhom it may concern:
Be it knomi that I, YIRGIL PRICE, of the city, county, and State of N ew York, have invented a Design for Sword Hilt and Scabbard, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 represents a face View of my new design for sword-hilt, and for the upper part of the seabbard. Fig. 2 is a face new of the ornament applied to the middle of the scalibard; Fig. 3, a face View of the ornamental tip or lower end of the scabbard.
Similar letters of reference indicate correv spondin g parts in all the figures.
This invention relates to a new ornamenta tion of the top or upper end of the sword-hilt, the same being made in the representation of a tent, A, which is partly open, displaying the figure of a knight seated therein. On the crown or roof of thc tent is an eye, embraced by a radial shell, B, as shown. The second part of my invention consists in a new decoration of the lower cross-bar r guard of the Sword-hilt, the same being formed on one side of a quiver, C, containing a bunch of arrows, D, and on the other side of a tomahawk, E, a bar, F, stretching across the entire length of the bar. A crown of feathers, G, embraces, or may be applied to, the hilt or gripe directly above the cross-bar or guard, as shown. Thirdly, my invention consists in a new configuration of the top ornament of the seabbard H, the same being made to represent two female figures, one leading a child. Beneath them is an anchor. This group is to represent Faith, Hope, and Charity. Fourthly, my invention consists in a new decoration of the center ornament of the seabbard H, the saine being in the forni of an altar supporting a pot of incense, from which a. tlame bursts upward. Against the altar I the two tables of Moses are inclined. My invention finally consists in the new tip or lower end ornament to the seabbard H, which is shown in Fig. 3, and which consists of two banners crossing each other, one bearing the representation of the sun, and the other the three letters F. L. T.
I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The design for the ornamentation of the top of the sword-hilt, as shown.
2. The design for the ornamentation of the cross-bar or guard of the swordehilt, as shomi.
3. The design for the top ornament of a sword-scabbard, as shown.
4. The design for the center ornament of the seabbard, as shown.
5. The design for the bottom ornament of the scabbard, as shown.
