Description

witmm:
N. PETERS. PHOTO-I ITHOGMPHER. wAvSHINGTDN D C UNITED STATES PATENT OEETcE.
CHARLES R. LONG, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 110,053, dated December 13, 1870.
To all 'whom it may concern Beit known that I, CHARLES R. LoNG,"of
Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful I mprovem entin Chairs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this speciieation.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in chairs; and consists in the mode of securing the seat to the legs, whereby the ordinary upper rounds and stretchers of the chair are dispensed with, while the seat is made detachable and the chair strong and durable.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the chair. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line a: x, showing the bottom or seat of the chair detached.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspending parts.
A represents the front, andB the back, legs of the chair. C is the seat, which may be made according to the patent granted me on the 11th day of January, 1870, or in any other I suitable manner.
I do not confine myself to any particular .kind of bottom'or seat, so long as the bottom is made whole in itself and detachable from the legs.
D represents gains in thefour legs of lthe chair, into which the seat is slipped and confined by screws, as plainly seen in Fig. 2.
By this mode of attaching the seat the upper rounds and stretchers commonly used in this description of chairs are not used.
The chair is made strong and durable in every particular.
By taking out the screws the seat is readily removed for repairs or other purposes.
While the expense is lessened, the chair is given a neater and more substantial appearance than when made in the ordinary 1nanner.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patenty The Inode herein shown and described of attaehing the seat to the legs of a chair, sub stantially as set forth.
CHARLES R. LONG.
