IMPROVEMENT lN PHOTOGRAPHIC POSlNG-CHAIRS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,110, dated October 17, 1871.

Be it known that I, CHARLES A. SCHINDLER, of West Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Photographic Posing- Chair 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specilication. i.

Figure 1 is a side View of my improved chair, partly in section to show the construction; Fig. 2 is a top view of the same, partly in section, through the line av a', Fig. l.

My invention has for its object to furnish an improved chair designed for photographers use in posing their subjects, and which shall be simple in construction, strong, durable, and convenient in use, being capable of several adjustments; and it consists in the construction and combination of various parts of the chair, as hereinafter more fully described.

A is the seat of the chair; B are the fore legs, and G are the rear legs. D is the back of the chair, the lower parts of the side-bars of which are slotted to receive a flange formed upon the rear ends of the arms E, the forward ends of which are attached to the rear parts ofthe sides ofthe seat frame. The outer sides of the side bars of the back D are covered by plates F, which cover the rear ends of the arms E and the lots in said side-bars. The lower ends ofthe slotted parts of the side-bars of the backD are connected and held in their proper relative position by two parallel cross-bars, d. G is a hand-screw, which is passed through and swiveled to the outer crossbar d and screws into the inner cross-bar d', so that by turning the said screw in one direction the parts of the side-bars ofthe back D will be made to clamp the anges ofthe arms E, and thus secure the said back at any desired elevation. The'rear legs C ofthe chair are so arranged and formed that the lower ends of the side-bars of the back D may descend along and it upon the rear sides of said legs so as to support the lower end of the said back D, however it may be adjusted. As heretofore made the rear legs of these chairs-have projected laterally and rearwardly, and the lower end of the back has descended between them, said lower end when lowered being entirely unsupported. H are arms of the chair, each of which is made with and is supported by a single standard, I, the lower end of which is inserted in a keeper, J, attached to the side of the seatframe, as shown in Figs. l and 2. This construction allows one or both the arms H I to be detached when desired.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In combination with the chair A B C, the removablel arms H I and keepers J, substantially as specified.

2. The combination of the sliding slotted back D and arms E E with the chair-seat A and legs B C, as shown and described.
