DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR BUTTON-HOOKS, 8:.0.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 31,067, dated June 27, 1899.
Application filed June 2, 1899. Serial No. 719,149 Term m" pat nt 3i a s.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM II. SAART, of Attleborough, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Handle of a Button-Hook or Similar Article, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is a side view of a handle, show ing my design secured to a button-hook, the blade of a paper-cutter being indicated in broken lines. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the handle on the line A A in Fig. 1.
The leading feature of my design consists in the scalloped margin of the handle ornamented with raised leaves extending from twosegmental lines inclosing a central panel, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter.
In the drawin g s,B indicates the blade, and G the stern,of the handle, and D the button-hook. At thejnnction of the handle with the article to which it is attached the bulbous enlargement a is ornamented by a series of convex bulbs, terminating in the surface of the lower end of the stem below the inwardly-curved contracted portion 1), from which extend upward the stems of the foliated scrolls c c, curving outward and then inward to the pendent or nament e, which extends downward over the widest portion of the stem between two strings of graduated semispherical beads. From the center, above the foliated scrolls c 0, extends the foliated scroll (1.. On each side of the convex panel f, which is inclosed by two segmental raised lines uniting in points at the opposite ends, the scrolled leaves g g extend diagonally over the scallops h h on each side of the blade of the handle, and three bulbous loaves spring from the rose ornament at the upper end of the convex panel f over the scallop '11, forming the end of the blade of the handle, presenting to the eye the appearance of a long-pointed panel inclosed in a fanshaped border.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for the handle of a button-hook or similar article herein shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
XVILLIAM ll. SAAR'I. Witnesses:
