DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 31,223, dated July 18, 1899.
Application filed u 16, 1899. Serial No. 720,859. Term of patent 83 years.
To a, whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ERNEST NV. CAMPBELL,
a citizen of the United Slates, residing at lrovidencejn the county of Providence, State 7 of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Handles of Spoons and Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure I is a face view of a spoon-handle, showing my design. Fig. II is a central vertieal section of the same.
The leading features of my design consist [5 of a mask ornament surmounted by a panel with marginal scroll ornamentation in conjunction With a stem faced with a series of floral pendants. The style herein disclosed represents a period of the French renaissance.
In the drawings, A represents the blade, and B the stern, of the handle. At their junction is an ornamental mask a, pendent from which is a series of gradually-diminishing floral ornaments I), terminating in circular beads r. On eithersidc of the stem are single marginal heading (1 (I. 'lhe panel c of the blade is bordered by overlying foliates variously arranged, which also serve to form the contour of the handle. The lower panel portion is slightly swelled in outline by inwardly-inclined foliates ff, with triple terminations. Extending upwardly, the panel broadens in general outline, embraced on either side by oppositely-disposed foliated scrolls 1m, embedded in which are series of spherical beads 71 n. The crest of the panel, which is also the termination of the handle 0, consists of a bunch of four diverging scrolls.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for the handle of a spoon orsimi lar article as herein shown and described.
