\VALTER \VILKINSON, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO TIIE GORHAM MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
POON-HANDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 16,688, dated May 11, 1886.
Serial No. 185,319.
Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, \VALTER WILKINSON, of the city and county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and original Design for the Handles of Spoons, Forks, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying photographic illustrations, forming a part of the same, to be a descrip tion thereof.
This design relates to the handles of tableware, such as spoons, forks, ladles, knives, &c.
For the purpose of illustrating the design, I have chosen a spoon, of which Figure 1 in the accompanying photograph isa front view, and Fig. 2 a rear View.
A is the shank portion of the handle, which is curved outwardly at act to join the head portion B. This head is approximately rectangular in form, and its sides I) b and end b have the contour of a continuous wave-line. The edges of the shank and head portions are bordered by a head, 0. The front face of the shank A is ornamented by leaves d, and at the junction of the shank with the head a shelllike rosette, e,is located. The front face of the head portion is ornamented by leafy scrolls f and g g and a matted surface, h. The rear face of the shank A has a central longitudinal row of beads, In, and is ornamented by leaves Z. At the junction of the shank with the head portion are leafy scrolls m m, and a leafy spray, n, extends from the shank to and upon the head. The upper end of the head is ornamented by leafy scrolls 0 n.
\Vhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a design for the handles of spoons, forks, &c., the shank portion A, ornamented by leaves d, and the head portion B, ornamented by the leafy scrolls f and g, and the shell-like rosette e, substantially as described and shown.
2. In a design for the handles of spoons, forks, &c., the shank portion A, ornamented 5 by the beads 70 and leaves I, and the head portion B, ornamented by the leafy spray it and leafy scrolls m and o, substantially as described and shown.
3. In a design for the handles of spoons, 50 forks, &c., the shank portion A and head portion B, ornamented upon one face by the leaves it, shell-like rosette e, and leafy scrolls fand g, and upon the other face by beads k, leaves I, leafy scrolls m and 0, and the leafy spray a, 55 substantially as described and shown.
