SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 23,515, dated July 31, 1894.
Application filed June 28,1894. Serial No. 516,019. Term of patent 7 years.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUSTIN F. J ACKSON, a .citizen of the United States, residing at Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Handles of Spoons, Forks, &c., of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
IO Figure 1 is a view of the front or top side of a spoon showing my design, and also Showing in dotted lines the same design applied to a fork. Fig. 2 is a view of the back or bottom side of a spoon showing my design, and
r 5 also by dotted lines its application to a fork.
The leading feature of the front or upper face of the spoon is a plain panel A at its Wide end extending about one third the whole length of the handle, and having its outer end slitted longitudinally and the ends turned outwardly in the form of three divergent scrolls a b c, and the inner end of the panel next to the shank similarly slitted and the ends turned outwardly in the form of three 2 5 divergent scrolls d e f. A trefoil cluster of scrollsB forms the outer terminus of the handle, and a single bulbous volute scroll C is arranged at the opposite end of the panel next to the shank D which latter has a central row of button like projections with a longitudi- 3o nal marginal bead on each side of the same. An expanding cluster of small scrolls E gracefully connects the shank to the wide spreading part of the bowl or fork.
The leading feature of the back or bottom 3 5 side of the handle is a continuous central panel F of plain surface, and extending throughout the handle and shank, surmounted at its widest end with a scrolled ornament G extending down on each side. toward the shank in wavy shoots g. The shank H has a plain longitudinal head on each edge, but at the point of union with the bowl or wide spreading part of the fork there is a richly scrolled ornament I having a central cluster of flowers extending well down upon the wider portion of the bowl or fork head.
The design is intended to be applied to the handles of spoons, forks, ladles, knives and like articles.
What I claim is- The design for the handles of spoons, forks, 850., as herein shown and described.
