CHARLES MAGEE, F \VILLIAMSBURG, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE BIGE- LOYV CARPET COMPANY, OF CLINTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,572, dated November 15, 1881.
Application tiled August 30, 1851. Term of patent 35 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES MAGEE, of Williamsburg, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to anew and original design for carpets, oil-cloths, and similar fab rics.
[O t It consists in the novel grouping and configuration of parts hereinafter more fully described.
The accompanying photograph illustrates a face view of a carpet having my new design.
D is a group resembling in appearance a eravat, having wings a and o, and having on top two obliquey-placed bars with angular bends, as shown. Part of the wing a is overlapped by the angular figure O, which contains dotted ornament g. Below the wing 11 is the angular figure h, partly overlapped by the figure O, as shown. Below the figures G and h is the gable-shaped figure A, having a crowning ornament, m, and containing a decoration 2 of converging lines terminating in bell-shaped flowers, and also a central rosette in the lower part. Into the lower portion of the figure A enter the ends of a V-shaped bar, 1', having foliated ends, as shown.
B is a figure placed below the figure A, and resemblesin its upper portion the outline ofa roof; butitismade with downwardly-projecting wings 0, between which is inclosed the ornamental figure i. The wings o are ornamented with plow-shaped designs, and the upper part of the figure B with leaf-like decorations suspended frotn stems that are above them. Be low the figure A is also the angular figure f, containing series of fonr-pronged stars and other ornaments, as shown. Near that is the figure d, of irregular outline, containing a prominent V-shaped ornament in its center. From the figure d extends to the right a branch with three flowers thereon, as indicated. Be- 5 low this branch is the square figure e, having six wavy projections on two of its sides, as indicated. Below the ornament i is the figure c, which resembles a shrub with flowers on both sides of a central stem, and below the figure 0 is the floral ornament I), placed in a geometrical field of irregular outline. Below the ornament b is an ornament, t, which resembles two crossed sticks in an oval field, which in turn is surrounded by a field of irregular outline. The space to the left of the figure A is occupied by the field 8, whose most prominent ornament resembles an ostrich feather, as shown. The wing uof figure D is partly overlapped by a figure, a, which closely resembles the figure b, and which in turn appears partly overlapped by one of the wings of the figure B.
I claim 1. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure A, having ornament m, substantially as shown.
2. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure r, substantially as shown.
3. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure A, having ornament m and figure 7', substantially as shown.
4. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure 0, having ornament g, substantially as shown.
5. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure B, having wings 0, substantially as shown.
