DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,437, dated August 30, 1881.
Application filed July 29, 1881. Term of patent 3} years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR L. HALLIDAY, of Yonkers, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification.
vThis invention relates to a new design for carpets and similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel groupingand configuration of figures hereinafter more fully described.
The accompanying photograph illustrates a face View of a carpet bearing my new design.
The background of this carpet is covered with a connected foliage assuming the shape of wreaths, leaving open spots on the background which give the appearance of light seen through heavy foliage. There are three such spots of background, the one marked the other 2, and the third at. The background or field y is ornamented with alternate double horizontal and vertical bars, which give it a peculiarappearanoe. Into this background or field projects a tree like floral decoration from the group 10, which group contains roses on heavily-indented leaves, and from which group project branches that embrace the sides and upper partof the field y. At the right of the field y is an angular scroll, h, below a branch, '0. The field 2 has upon it a background orna mented by series of scrolls arranged in straight rows, as shown, whereby it derives a very pe ouliar appearance. Into this figure z projects the branch afrom the fioral'group J. This floral group J has a couple of full-blown roses directly below the twig a, as shown at m, and at the left of the figure 2 projects from the figure J the branch '0 above referred to. Above this branch 1) and partly bordering on the figure 2 is an S-shaped angular scroll, c, and dianother S-shaped angular scroll, b. The fiel d is at the right of the field z and separate therefrom by the floral group it. Above th' figure toward the left, is a checkered field, s, and above that the branch 0, that extends downward from the figure J.
