DESIGN FOR A CARPET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,857, dated April 11, 1882. vApplication filed March 8, 1882. Term of patent 35 years.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR L. llALLlDAY, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and original De- 5 sign for Carpets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets, oil-cloths, and similar fabrics.

to It consists in the novel grouping and configuration of parts hereinafter more fully described.

The accompanying photograph illustrates a face view of a carpet having my new design.

I: The stripe A is ornamented with a series of figures resembling sharply-bent branches of trees almostbare of leaves and having growing thereon scattered circular flowers. Along the bottom of the stripe A runs the band a, containing an ornamentation consisting of a series of triangles set side by side.

The stripe Bis ornamented with a vine, curving first toward the bottom of the stripe and then toward the top, which bears oblong leaves and open flowers upon it.

The stripe O has running along its top the ornamentation 1), consisting of a series of pendent figures set side by side. The stripe 0 also contains the group H, containing flowers and leaves, and having projecting therefrom the branch (1, having an open flower and slender sprays. The stripe C also contains the flower group E, composed of a large open rose-like flower, e, combined with smaller circular flowers and with leaves and projecting branches. 5

The band D contains an ornamentation composed of small round figures, of eight-pointed figures resembling stars, and of circular flowcr-like figures.
