SPECIFICATION forming part of Des ign No. 12,505, dated October 4, 1881.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, Winrnnor L. Jacons, of East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and 5 original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a speciiication. l

This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets and similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel grouping and configuraio tion of figures hereinafter' more fully described.

The accompanying photograph illustrates a face view of a carpet having my new design.

A is a circular figure, resembling an open I5 flower with serrated edges. B is a circular newer-like 'figure set on an angular stem. c is a figure resembling a half-rosette with a leaf projecting from its top. o is a ligure resem- `bling a Cornucopia in shape and made up of 2o small figures. D is a lower-like 'figure with open spray leaves. G is a figure one part of vwhich appears on each side of the design, and consists of a rosette-like center surrounded by leaf-like figures. H is also a igureof which 2 5 one part appears on each-side of the design. It is circular in form, and has projecting 'from one side a branch with lowers thereon. b is -flower-like figure, resembling a tulip set on a stem. C is a ilower-like figure with projecting open leaves. p resembles a circular flower 3o set on a stem. h is a figure resembling a leaf with buds thereon. n is a figure resembling a flower projecting into the design. E is shaped like a cornucopia and made up of a variety of small figures. d is an oval ilower- 35 like iigure. t' is a circular figure. c is a figure resembling a branch with buds upon it. F

is a igure resembling a cross with leaves projecting from its ends. k is a branch with buds upon it, and m is another somewhat similar 4o branch.

The whole effect of the design is that of a vine, branch, or stem running irregularly across a background composed of small oval figures with rectangular centers, the vines or 45 branches bearing upon them at intervals the various iigures described.
