DESIGN FOR A CARPET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,425, dated August 23, 1881. Application filed July 14, 1881. Term of patent 31; years.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR L. HALLTDAY, of Yonkers, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is specification.

This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets and similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel grouping and configura- IO tion of figures hereinatterrnore fully described.

The accompanying photograph illustrates a face view of a carpet having rrry new design.

A is a group composed ot" an open rose, a, with leaves and branches bearing leaves and r flowers projectingaround it. The group A al o contains the figure b, composed ot'thick leat'y toliage, with flowers scattered through it at intervals, and with projecting leafy branches and sprays, and this figure bis closely joined to the figure a by thick leafy foliage. The whole group A is apparently supported on one side by the L-shaped trellis-work c and on another side by the rectangular trellis-work d.

The figure B consists of an open rose in the 2 center, surrounded by leaves, leafy branches, and sprays, and having at one side the trellis work 0, connecting it with the group A.

The figure 0 consists of a center of circular flowers and an open rose surrounded by leai'y 0 branches and sprays, and having projecting from it the mossy spray g, and connected by the rectangulartrellis-work d with the group A.

The figure 0 consists of a flower and sprays somewhat resembling a crab. The figure f consists of a flower center surrounded by slender mossy sprays. These two figures 0 and f appear at frequent intervals in the spaces between the grorrps and figures heretofore described.
