Be it known that I, WILLIAM MCCALLUM, ot Yonkers, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets and similar fabrics; and it consists of the novel grouping and contiguration of iigures, hereinafter more fully described.
The accompanying photograph illustrates a face view of a carpet having my new design.
A is a vinelike figure running across the design, and bearing upon it leaves, ilowers, and flowering branches and shoots. From this vine A projects the ligure O, consisting ot' a cluster of flowers and leaves 5 also, the figure e, a projecting branch of the vine A, ,bearing on it circular flowers and leaves; also, the ligure b, forming another branch of the vine A, and bearing upon it leaves and circular ilowers similar to those otl the branch e, and terminating in a projecting willow-like branch, from which grow pendent bell-shaped flowers. The other end of the vine A is formed by the projecting branch a, bearing on it leaves and circular flowers similar to those ofthe figures b and c.
B is a ligure resembling a bush, bearing upon it leaves and fully-opened circularilowers near its center, around which project flowersprays and leaves.
The interstices between the 1i gures described are filled by a regular-patterned background, formed by the repetition, in regular order, of the small gurcs ot' peculiar shape shown in the photograph, and the whole eli'ect ot' the design is that ot' the branching` Vine and the ilowerin g bush described resting upon this regular background, which appears in the interstices between the figures.
