DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,846, dated April 4, 1882.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR L. HALLIDAY, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and original De- 5 sign for Carpets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets and similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel grouping and configura' tion of parts hereinafter more fully described.
The accompanying photograph illustrates a face view of a carpet having my new design.
The figure A has a cross in its center, with a projection from one end, said cross and projection being surrounded byan irregular band.
The figure Ais vcrysiinilar 10A, but is modified in some details.
The figure B somewhat resembles a threeleaved clover.
The figure G consists of flowers and leaf-like figures growing upon a central stem, one piojecting stem having a figure resembling a hunch ot'leaves extending from it.
The figure C is similar to the figure (J, but has a number of changes in its details.
The figure D consists of a central rosette, with leaflike figures projecting from it.
The figure E consists of three circular figures somewhat resembling spiders.
The figure F somewhat resembles an oakleaf.
The figure G resembles a branch.
The figure H consists of a central rosette, with crosses, stems, and leaf-like projections 5 outside of it.
The figure J consists of three spider-like circular figures somewhat resembling the figure E.
The figure K consists of a large leaf-like o figure.
The backgrounds of these figures and ot'other minor ornaments consist of various small figuresregularlyrepeated. Thusthebackground L consists of aseries of small squares, thebackground M of a series ot'lines with little dotted circles interspersed. The background N consists of a. series of various rectangular figures, and the background 0 of a series of oblong parallelograins. The background P consists of a series of dagger-like figures, and the background Q of a series of broken squares.
I claim 1. The design for carpet, consisting of the figure O, substantially as shown.
2. The design for carpet, consisting of the figure E, substantially as shown.
3. The design for carpet, consisting figure G, substantially as shown.
4. The design for carpet, consisting figure K, substantially as shown.
5. The design for carpet, consisting background L, substantially as shown.
6. The design for carpet, consisting background M, substantially as shown.
7. The design for carpet, consisting background N, substantially as shown.
8. The design for carpet, consisting background 0, substantially as shown.
9. The design for carpet, consisting of the background P, substantially as shown.
