DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,806, dated March 14, 1882. Application filed February 11, 1882. Term of patent 3.} years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY HORAN, of East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to anew and original design for carpets and similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel grouping and configuration of figures hereinafter more fully described.
The accompanying photograph illustrates a face View of a carpet having my new design.
A is a large flower-group, consisting of fullblown roses supported on a cluster of leaves over a blank field, with projecting flowers and fern-leaves on all sides and leaf-clusters a and b, and two groups of circular flowers and buds, c d. Above A is a rectangular field, E, ornamented by small diagonal rectangular figures with square centers. Below Ais a rectangular field, E, ornamented by small diagonal squares with square centers, and partly traversed by leaf-clusters and flowers from adjoining groups and by the group B. B (shown in part at one end and in part at the other end of the photograph) consists of a bouquet of roses and rosebuds, circular flowers, and geranium s, supported on a mass of fern-leaves, and with sprays of fern and flower traversing the surrounding o fields,theleaf-group cand flower-and-leafgroup ftraversing the upper parts of E and the lower parts of the adjacent fields G and H. G, an irregular field ornamented by small squares, with squares at the corners and star-shaped 5 centers, is partly traversed by sprays from adjacent flower-groups. Above G and on the right-hand portion of the field F rests the flower-group C, which is a bouquet of roses and circular flowers with spreading ferns and a trailing stem below. It is shown in part on one side and in part on the other side of the photograph. Above C is the irregular field H, covered with small ornamental squares having scrolls at the corners, and partly traversed by flower-and-leaf sprays. er-grou p D, resting chiefly on the left-hand portion of the field F. It is shown in part on one side and in parton the other side of the design, and consists of a bouquet of roses and small flowers on a mass or" leaves, with projecting flower and stem and bud above and ferns on each side and drooping leaves below.
