Application filed February 11, 1882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRYHORAN, of East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets and similar fabrics, and itronsistsin thenovelgroupingand configuration of figures, hereinafter more fully described.
The accompanying photograph illustrates a face view of a carpet having my new design.
This design is for a border for a carpet; and itconsists of two principal portions, A and B, above the band 0, and separated by the band 0, which consists of successive semi-hexagonal forms with radiating centers, the place of every fourth being taken by a four-lobed-leat' form. A consists of various leat'and flower groups traversing the background a and jutting out over the blank field b, all of which separate groups, figures, and grounds are fullydesct ibed and claimed in an application filed February 23, 1882, and numbered 53,532, for a patent for a design for carpets by Julius Piege', and which I do not therefore specifically and separately claim herein; but the particular combination of such groups, figures, and grounds herein shown is new. Below A is the hand 0, consisting of a series of small scalloped forms, above them a series of fuur-lobed'fiower forms with rectangular bases, and above a series of square block forms.
D is a broad band traversed by sprayingleaf forms and broken by the vase-like forms E,which, with leaf forms springing from their sides, rise from the band e, and, spreading, support the narrow band 0, composed of a. row of small cup-shaped figures, and on which rests the broad band F. F includes all of the design above the band 0, and consists of successiveheart-shaped figures surmounted byuearly Term of patent. 3.5 years.
circular flowers, and having two leaf-like forms on each side, between which springs a flat arch extending to the adjacent figures, 01. Be-
neath the arch three circular flower forms occupy the space, each partly concealed by the band 0. From the middle one rises a small spreading-flower form to the center of the arch. Above the arch are small ornamental forms, and the whole is surmounted by a line or series of small three-lobed-lenf figures, the said leatand flower forms in part B being conventional in character.
I claim- 1. The design for a border for carpets, consisting of the figure I substantially as shown.
2. The design for a border for carpets, consisting of the figure B, including the figures D I) i c, substantially as shown.
