UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY HORAN, OF EAST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE HART- FORD CARPET COMPANY, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,443, dated November 21, 1882.
- Application filed August 11, 1882. Term of patentili years. i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY HORAN, of East Orange, in the State of New Jersey, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets,'
of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets and similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel grouping and configuration of figures hereinafter more fully described.
The accompanying photograph illustrates a face View of a carpet having my new design.
The blank field aoccupies much ot'the space bet-ween the larger flower groups. The blank field b underlies for the most part the flower groups, and projects out over the field a in small coral or lichen-like forms.
The group A consists of three large open flowers resting on a leaf mass, with a sprig of moss-rose buds above, clusters of small starshaped flowers on the right and left and below, and fern-and-leafsprays projecting irregularly on all sides across the field a. This group rests upon and includes a bracket-like support seen at the lower left corner of the group.
B consists of two open flowers above a leaf cluster, with a sprig of moss-rose buds on the left, an open flower on the right, and bud-andfern sprays on all sides. This group includes and rests upon a lattice-like support. (Seen below the central portion of the group.)
C (shown in part at the right upper and lower portions of the photograph and in part at the left central portion) consists of a large central rose in a leaficluster, a group of small starshaped flowers to the left below, and another to the right below, a large open flower to the right above, and a sprig of moss-rose buds to the left above. This group rests upon and includes a right-lined bracket-1ikesupport,which springs from a small cluster of geranium'leaves 0 and fern sprays to the left of the main portion of the group. Filling the space in between these larger groups are various smaller flower groups and leaf sprays, as shown in the accompanying photograph.
1 claim- 1. The design for carpets, consisting of the groups A,B,aud C and the intervening smaller groups, substantially as shown.
2. The design for carpets, consisting of the groups A, B, and C and the intervening smaller groups and the fields a and 11, substantially as shown and described.
HENRY HORAN.
