DESIGN FOR CARPET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,225, dated April 12, 1881.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HUGH CHRISTIE, of the city of New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets and similar fabrics and it consists in the novel grouping and configuration of figures hereinafter more fully described.

The accompanying photograph illustrates a face View of a carpet having my new design.

D is a group containing the figure 19, composed of two ornamented parallelograms, one overlapping the other; also containing the figure e, a branch projecting from the figurep having leaves and circular flowers upon it; also containing the figure h, a cluster of leaves resting on the figure p, and from which project stems with circular flowers thereon.

The figure B is composed of ornamented rectangles, one overlapping the other, and forming a center, around which project leaves and stems bearin g circular flowers.

The figure A is composed of curving blocklike figures, forming a center, from which project branches bearing leaves and cireularfiowers, similar to those found in figures B and D.

The group 0 contains the figuref, composed of an ornamented parallelogram, overlapped by an ornamented square, and also contains, projecting from this figure f, a branch, d, bearing leaves and circular flowers, like those of the figure A.

The figure F forms a patterned background covered with numerous small block-like figures of different shapes, which appear in the interstices between the figures already described, the whole design being made up of this background F, upon which appear at regular intervals the groups and figures described.

I claim- 1. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure 22, substantially as shown.

2. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure e, substantially as shown.

3. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure h, substantially as shown.

4. The design for carpets, consisting of the group D, containing figures h, p, and 0, substantially as shown.

5. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure A, substantially as shown.

6. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure B, substantially as shown.

7. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure F, substantially as shown.

8. The design for carpets, consisting of the figuref, substantially as shown.

9. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure d, substantially as shown.

10. The design for carpets, consisting of the group 0, containing figuresfand d, substantially as shown.

11. The design for carpets, consisting of the group D, containing figures h 12 0, group 0, containing figures d' andf, and figures A, B, and F, substantially as shown.
