DESIGN FOR CARPETS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,243, dated May 3, 1881.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ARTHUR L. HALLIDAY, of the city of New York, county of New York, and State of New York,ha.\'e invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets and similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel grouping and configuration of figures hereinafter more fully described.

The accompanying photograph illustrates a face view ofa carpet having my new design.

The figure B is a patterned stripe containing ligu res d, resembling sharp-pointed leaves with small flowers interspersed, one leaf projecting into the stripe H, and also containing figures b. consisting of a cluster of leaves, from which projects into the stripe H a spray of star flowers and buds. This stripe H contains a bunch of leaves, E, projecting into the stripe B, and having growing from it circular daisy-like flowers p, with slender tufts of grass interspersed between them. The stripe H also contains the figure q, resembling a leaf growing among blades of grass, and with buds and flowers projecting therefrom. It also contains the figure C.resern bling light branching sprays of grass with flowers thereon. Between the stripe B and the stripe H runs a patterned band, and between the stripe H and the stripe F runs a band, a, ornamented with a series of parallel lines runninglengthwise ot the band, and broken at regular intervals by circular ornaments, resembling a spoked wheel. The stripe F has upon it figures h, resembling small leafy branches, and has also crossing it a regular succession of parallel bars. The pattern ed stripcj runs by the side of the stripe F.

I claim- 1. The design for carpets, consisting of the 0 stripe B and figures d and b, substantially as shown.

4. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure C, substantially as shown.

5. The design for carpets, consisting of the band a, substantially as shown.

6. The design for carpets, consisting of the stripe H, containing figures E, p, q, and 0, substantially as shown.

7. The design for carpets, consisting of the stripe F, containing, figures h, substantially as 5; shown.

8. The design for carpets, consisting of the band a, stripe F, and stripej, substantially-as shown.

9. The design for carpets, consisting of the stripe H, containing figures E, p, q, and U, and band a. substantially as shown.

10. The design for carpets, consisting of the tigure b. substantially as shown.
