Be it known that I, Anrrnua L. HALLIDAY, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying photograph, which forms a partof the same.

The invention relates to a design to be to worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.

The accompanying photograph is a face view :5 of a carpet showing my new design.

My design is composed of a body portion and a border, I).

The body portion of my design consists of several groups of flowers and leaves, arranged in the manner shown over the face of the carpet, each group being more or less extended in outline.

Group A has a long branching stem supporting several large leaves near its lower end.

Above these are two large circular flowers, one partly overlying the other. Smaller leaves and flowers, with one or more buds, project from the upper part of the stem. A branch stem projects from the lower part of the main 3o stem, bearing a large circular flower, together with smaller flowers and buds and leaves.

Group B has a short central stem with large and small leaves dependent from it and supporting a bud at the top. 011 one side a branch stem supports two large circular flowers, with smaller flowers and leaves and buds. On the other side of the main stem is another branch stem bearing a large circular flower and a number of buds and leaves.

Group C is a smaller group, having two cir- 4o cular flowers supported near the center of its stem, with smaller leaves below and two small star-shaped [lowers near the end of the stem. At the top a long curving stem projects, hearing several buds.

Each of these groups is surrounded with a series of less prominent skeleton flower and leaf forms, and with moss or lichen like work.

My border has an inner margin of an ornamental character. The middle portion is ornamentcd with a flower and leaf group, which is repeated along the border. This group consists of two large circular flowers, one partly underlying the other, with a number of large and small leaves surrounding them, the flowers and leaves being of the same character as those in the body. Branching stems project from this center, bearing smaller flowers and leaves. interspersed between the other forms are less prominent skeleton flower and leaf forms, and also a moss or lichen like work. My border has a wide outer margin composed of several rows of ornamental forms.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a design for carpets, the body part, substantially as shown.

2. In a design for carpets, the border D, substantially as shown.

3. The design for carpets, consisting of the body and the border, substantially as shown.
