To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM T. G-ouon, of Yonkers, county of \Vestchester, and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following isa. specification, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, which forms a part of the same.

The invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein Specifically shown and claimed.

The accompanying photograph is a face view of a carpet showing my new design.

My design is made up of a body part and a border.

The main feature of the body part is the arrangement upon a continuous stem-work of a large bell shaped flower and compound leaves, the intervening spaces being ornamented with small flowers and leavesscattered irregularly over the face of the carpet, and also with outline or skeleton leaf and flower forms of less prominence in the pattern.

A is one of the large bell-shaped flowers, and has two distinct circles of leaves surrounding the heart of the flower.

B is another bell-shaped flower, at the cen- 0 ter of which are a number of little flowerheads supported on slender stems. Around this center are two circles of leaves.

0 is a compound leaf with corresponding lobe-like leaves or part leaves on either side.

D is another compound leaf or cluster of 5 leaves, with ends of the leaves curved over, so as to show their underside. The outline leaf and flower work is ornamented at certain parts by parallel lines or partial lattice-work.

My border E has an inner ornamented margin. Its middle portion is ornamented with large bellshaped flowers A and compound leaves 0, similar to those already described. Between these figures are smaller leaves and stems, and also outline or skeleton leaf and flower forms ornamented with parallel lines or a partial latticc-work. The outer margin of the border is ornamented with tall stems supporting bulblike forn1s,with series oflines and small flowers scattered over them, and with fanshaped forms.

\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a design for a carpet, the figures A, B, O, and D and the other figures of the body portion, substantially as shown.

2. In a design for a carpet, the border portion E, substantially as shown.

3. The design for a carpet, consisting of the figures A, B, G, and D and the other figures of the body portion, and the border portion E, substantially as shown.
