To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LWILLIAM F. MARSHALL, a citizen of theUnited States,residing at North Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts,have invented and produced a certain new, original, and ornamental Design for the Back of aBrush or Similar Artiole, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a face view of a back embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 a central vertical section of the same.
As illustrated, the leading or material features of my design are the representations of various marine subjects arranged in detail as follows: The representation of the head of a single dragon a ornaments the top and one upper side of the back, the representation of a female I) and child partially submerged in waves 0 forms the escutcheon, while the base bears the representation of a single dolphins head d, from which depends a floral cluster 6. Upon the right and left of the escutcheon from the dragon to the'dolphins head are masses of intermingled scrolls and foliates f, including upon one side, adjacent the dragons head, a water-flower g, upon the opposite side, below the dragon, a second water-flower h.
The handle bears the representation of a human face i, framed in a mass of flowing hair. Beneath the face is a water-flowery and above the former a cluster of foliates 70, intermediate which and the floral cluster e are two converging series Z of intermingled scrolls, leaflets, and buds.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The ornamental design for the back of a brush or similar article, as herein shown and described.
