UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IILTIIAM C. CODMAN, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR T() 'llll CORIIAM MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A SPOON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,088, dated May 25, 1897'.
Application filed April 6, 1897. Serial No. 631,022. Term of patent 7 years.
To al whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. CODMAN, of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhede Island, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Spoons; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is a view of the obverse side of a spoon, showing Iny design. Fig. 2 is a view of the reverse side of the spoon.
The leading features of my design consist in the raised foliations extending from the I 5 edge of the handle inward, terminating at the upper end of the spoon in a draped space, and the representation of toys on the obverse side of the handle and the bowl, more fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, A indicates the bowl of the spoon; B, the neck, and C the blade, of the handle. On both the obverse and reverse sides of the spoon, at the junction of the handle with the bowl of the spoon, the foliation d extends from the narrow neck B over a portion of the bowl A. From the upper part of the neck B extends the raised foliated stein ebetween the marginal raised stems f f,whieh,
extendingr upward, form the succession of inwardly-inclined leaves g. The marginal stem extends upward above the folial ions g g under the festoened drapery 7i 71, which ornaments the upper end of the handle. On the obverse side the space between the marginal ornanientations has at the upper end the representation of an infants face i and below this an end View of the cradle from which extends a line connecting the representations of toys along the center of the handle. From the foliated end (l of the handle, within the the bowl A, a ribbon bow connects with the representation of a series of toys.
\Vhen viewed as a whole, the design cenveys to the eye the appearance of a nurseryspoon.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The design for a spoon herein shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto -set in v hand.
