UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS O. PORTER, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE JAMES E. BLAKE COMPANY, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A BACK FOR HAND-MIRRORS, BRUSHES, OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 36,012, dated August 19, 1902.
Application filed December 12,1901. Serial No. 85,710. Term of patent Sig/ears.
T0 (tZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS C. PORTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new, original, and ornamental Design for the Back of Hand-Mirrors, Brushes, or Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is a plan View of the back of a hand-mirror, showing my design. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional View taken through the widest part of the back.
My design consists of the convex panel on which the conventional representation of Loves Dream, consisting of the head and bust of a woman kissed by a cupid and supported on clouds, is shown in relief, surrounded by a border having at the central upper part a mask, from the mouth of which flames extend in opposite directions. Conventional representations of dolphins extend at opposite sides from the flames and connecting with the conventional representations of dragons form the border, from which flowing bands extend over the handle, inclosing a convex panel terminating in a shell or nament. All the ornamentations are raised above the convex surface of the back.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The ornamental design for the back of a hand-mirror, brush, orsimilar article, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LOUIS O. PORTER.
Witnesses:
J. A. MILLER, J r., ADA E. HAGERTY.
