UNITED STATES PATENT 1 OFFICE.
EUSTAOE OREES AND CHARLES S. COURT, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNORS TO THE WATSON AND NEWELL COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF RHODE ISLAND.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,994, dated August 12, 1902.
Application filed June 20, 1902, Serial No. 112,553. Term of patent '7 years.
To It whom, may concern;
Be it known that we, EUSTAOE OREEs and OHARLEs S. CoUn'r, citizens of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county 5 of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented and prod need a certain new, original, and ornamental Design for the Handle of a Spoon or Similar Article, (Case A,) of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is the obverse of a spoon-handle embodying our new design, and Fig. 2 the reverse of the same.
In the drawings, A is the head, and B the stem, of the spoon-handle.
The leading or material feature of our design consists in the following arrangementof Wild roses and leaves in relief.
The head of the handle has its obverse ornamented with the representation of a wild rose Ct, surmounted by an opening bud b, which forms a part of the contour of the head extremity. Underlying and beneath the rose is a mass of rose-leaves c, springing from stalks (Z (Z, which form the marginal beading in each side of the handle. Branching upwardly and inwardly from one of the marginal stalks d, along the stem of the handle, is a rosebud e, and from the opposite marginal stalk beneath this bud spring at intervals :rose-leavesf. At the handle-base is a sprig g p of n p ward] y-d irectod rose-leaves.
The reverse ornamentation of the handle consists of the representation, as a crest, of a partially-blown wild rose 1) upon a stem h, which sinnonsly traverses the handle. Below the rose 1) is an outwardly-directed bud vi, whose stem j also traverses the handle. The head is further ornamented by another 40 bud 7c and two leaves Z, allot' which spring downwardly and inwardly from one margin of the head A. The head ornamentation is completed by a cluster of leaves no, springing from the opposite margin of the head. The reverse beading m is also composed of rosestalks. The stem of the handle is ornamented by three rose-leaves n, which branch from the marginal stalkm. The representation of a downwardly-directed sprig of leaves 0 at the base of the handle completes the design.
It is evident that our design is applicable to the handles of forks and similar articles.
- Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secnreby Letters Patent, is-
The ornamental design for the handle of a spoon or similar article, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof We have aflixed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
