'I'Hi uoams PETERS CO..'PMO1T LITNO., WASHINGTON 0 c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE EUSTACE CREES AND CHARLES S. COURT, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNORS TO THE WATSON AND NEWVELL COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF RHODE ISLAND.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS OR SlMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,996, dated August 12, 1902.
Application filed June 20, 1902. Serial No. 112,555. Term of patent '7 years.
To all whom it ntay concern.-
Be it known that we, EUSTAOE CREES and CHARLES S. COURT, citizens of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a certain new, original, and ornamental Design for the Handle of 2.
Spoon or Similar Article, (Case 0,) of which' the following is a specification, reference IO being had to the accompanying drawings,
forming part thereof.
Figure l is the obverse of a spoon-handle embodying our design, and Fig. 2 the reverse of the same.
As shown in the drawings, the leading or material feature of our design consists in the following arrangement of the representation of poppy leaves and blossoms: The head of the handle contains the representation of a full-blown poppy a, from one side of which emerges in an upward direction a bud Z). From the other side upwardly foliates o,which, with the bud b, converge to form the crest of the handle. Branching from one margin of the handle-stem are a series of upwardly-directed poppy-leaves 01, some of whose extremities disappear beneath the poppy a. From the same margin also, about midway the length of the handle, branches a bud e.
0 Below this are marginal foliates f. Upon the margin of the handle opposite that already described and at irregular intervals are inwardly and upwardly directed foliates g. At the base of the handle is the representation of a poppy-leaf h.
The reverse ornamentation consists, essentially, of marginal beading 1;, from which radiate inwardly in the head of the handle foliatesj and converge at the handle extremity. Embraced by the heading on either side of the center of the head of the handle are upwardly-directed foliates 7c, and within these interlaced stems Z, longitudinally disposed upon the handle and terminating in the stem thereof. The lower extremities of the beading iterminate in foliates m.
It is evident that our design is applicable to the handles of a knife or similar article.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The ornamental design for the handle of a spoon or similar article, as herein shownand described.
In testimony whereof we have affixed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
EUSTACE CREES. CHARLES S. COURT.
