UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EUSTACE CREES AND CHARLES S. COURT, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNORS TO THE WATSON AND NEWELL COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF RHODE ISLAND.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Design N0. 36,296, dated April 28, 1903.
Application filed March 26, 1903. Serial No. 149,764:- Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, EUSTAOE CREES and CHARLES STCOURT, citizens of the United States, residing in the city of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new, original, and ornamental Design for the Handle of a Spoon or Similar Article, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, formin g part thereof.
The drawing shows our design as applied to the handle of a spoon.
It is evident that this design can be applied to the handles of articles other than but similar to spoons.
The material feature of our design consists in the representation in relief of the blossoms and foliage of the moccasin flower arranged into an ornamental design for a handle.
In itsdetail the design consists of a number of leaves 1 1, which intertwine somewhat in an upward direction from the base to the top of the handle, where one of them folds downward, forming a pointed termination 2 to the head. Diagonally across the upper extremity of the shank of the handle, just beneath the head, lies the partially-blown flower 3, suspended from the stem 4, which extends downward, passing behind the flower, to a point below, where it forms a part of the marginal ornamentation of the shank. In the head of the handle lies the full-blown flower 5, surrounded by some of the leaves 1 1.
Having described our invention, what we claim is The ornamental design for the handle of a spoon or similar article as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof we have affixed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
EUSTACE CREES.
CHARLES S. COURT. Witnesses:
CLINTON W. BROWN, FRED E. BRIGGS.
