PATENT OFFICE.
EUSTACE CREES AND CHARLES S. COURT, OF PROVIDENCE, RIIODE ISLAND, ASSIGNORS TO THE WATSON AND NEWELL COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF RHODE ISLAND.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design NO. 36,305, dated May 5, 1903.
Application filed March 26, 1903. Serial No. 149,765- Term of patent '7 years.
To rtZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, EUSTACE CREES and CHARLES S. COURT, citizens of the United States, residing in the city of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new, original, and ornamental Design for the Handle of a Spoon or Similar Article, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forniing part thereof.
The leading feature of our design consists in the outline of the handle and in its ornamentation, which consists of an ornamental I5 arrangement of clover blossoms and leaves represented in relief. 1
The design is represented in the drawings as embodied in the handle of a spoon, Figure 1 showing the obverse side, and Fig. 2 the reverse side.
On the obverse side the uppermost portion of the handle takes the form of a clover-blossom 3 with its sepaline foliates, beneath which lies the leaf 4 with its stem 5. About midway of the handle lies another cloverblossom U with sepals and subjoining stem. Between the blossom U and the leaf 4 is the small sprig or leaf '7, running in an upward direction across the handle, and the larger leaf 8, lying below it, which partially overlaps the blossom 6. About midway between this blossom 6 and. the base of the handle lies a small leaf 9 and at the base extremity another leaf 10.
11 is a plain marginal border. 5
On the reverse side, Fig. 2, the ornamentation consists of a border of clover-stalks 13, arranged in a style commonly known as LArt Nouveau, which incloses in the upper part of the handle the plain surface 14, above which is suspended the clover-leaf 15. Below the plain surface 14 are the leaves 16 and 17 upon a stem which branches out from the stalks 13. At the base of the handle is the clover-leaf 18.
It is evident that our design is applicable to the handles of articles other than but similar to spoons.
We claim The ornamental design for the handle of a spoon or similar article as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof We have affixed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
EUSTACE CREES. CHARLES S. COURT.
