SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,167, dated January 18, 1898.

Be it known that we, EUsTACE (limits and CHARLES S. COURT, citizens of the United States, residing in the city and county of 5 Providence and State of Rhode Island, have 1 o drawings, which constitute a part of this specification, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
Our invention consists in the ornamentation and configurations hereinafter described,
I 5 the leading features of which are the outline of the handle and its ornamentation, including novel arrangements of reeds in conjunction with scrolls.
The drawing presents a face view of the han- 2o dle in connection with the bowl of the spoon.
The dotted lines indicate a fork in which the design is embodied.
Referring to the drawing,the shank or lower portion of the stem A consists of a double se- 2 5 ries of graduated scrolls 5 5, inclosing an elongated polished surface el, the basal scrolls 6111- bracing a circular surface 17 in relief. The stem Bis formed by a group of parallel reeds 6 6, the central reed 7 culminating in the 30 wider and polished surface as it approaches the escutcheon, while the outer reeds of the group form the contour of the stem and culminat-e in the foliated scrolls S 8, inclosing a circular raised surface 16, above which are several scrolled devices 10. The head of the handle is an escutcheon O, consisting of two groups of reeds 9 9, beginning at the scrolled devices 10 10, embracing the elongated polished surface 11 and forming the outer edges of the handle. The reeds 9 9 are surmounted by a group of foliated scrolls whose curves give a shell-like outline to the handle. The scrolls 12 12 inclose smaller foliates. Between the scrolls 13 13 are three elongated and expanding polished surfaces terminating in a single-leaf treatment 15. Of these three surfaces 14 the central is the longest, above which the junction of the foliates forms the extremity of the handle.
