Application filed October 4, 1897. erial No. 65 L093. Term of patent 7 years.
To (tZZ whom, zit may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD IIOLBROOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Handles of Spoons, Forks, and Similar Articles; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being. had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is a view of the obverse side of the handle showing my design, and Fig. 2 a view of the reverse side'of the same.
The leading feature of my design consists in the representation of the stems and leaves of meadow grasses interlaced with the blossoms and leaves of the white clover, arranged in an ornamental pattern 011 the sides of a handle.
In the drawings, A indicates the stem, and B the blade of the handle. Along the margins of both the obverse and reverse sides of the handle extend the stems 4 4, from which the leaves 5 extend upward and in easy curves over, under, and across each other,
until they terminate near the upper end of side, is filled with the representation of a bunch of white-clover blossoms and leaves on the obverse side of the handle. A floral spike 9, resembling the spike of the meadow plant known as the crested dogstail, extends diagonally across the middle of the stem of the handle, inclosed in the leaves of the grasses. On the reverse side this portion of thehandle has the space between the leaves of the grasses filled with the representation of the blossoms and leaves of white clover 1O 10, and on the obverse side of the handle the spaces 11 and 12, between the leaves and stems of the grasses, are filled with the representations of the blossoms and leaves of the white clover. The whole presents the appearance of blades and flowers of meadow grasses entwined and inclosing the blossoms and leaves of white clover, Trifoli'um ripcns perenne, the stems, leaves, and blossoms being in relief.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
