Be it known that l, WILLIAM MGCALLUM, of South Orange, Essex county, New Jersey, llave invented a new and original Design for 5 Carpets, ot' which the following is a speeitcation.

This invention relates toa new and original design for carpets and'simiiar fabrics; and it consists in the novel grouping and configuraxo tion of parts. liereinat'termore fully described.

The accompanying photograph illustrates a face view of a carpet having my new design.

A is a stripe, composed ot' the band a, ornamented with a series of connected diamondshaped figures, below which runs the band b, containing an ornamentation ot' patterned tigA nres consisting of upright stems, terminating,` at one end in circular ligures and at tlicotlier in rectangular figures, and set alongside each zo other in a row. The stripe A also contains the band c, ornamented with a series of panels containing diagonal stripes, alternating with panels each ot'whicli contains a vine-liketignre.

The stripe B is composed of a band, d, at its upper portion, which is separated from the lower part ot the stripe by a line of molding, u. The stripe B contains the figure D, consisting ofa flower group composed of the ligures r, s, fi, and IL, consisting of flowers of varions forms, and contained within a linein the forni of an open arch. having a step-like projection, f, about haltway np on each side.

The iguregis a iiower bunch apparently resting on the step-like projection f. The figure c consists of two branches,crossing,r each other and extending over into tbe band d. The band C extends below the stripe D, and is ornamented with a series ot leafy vine -like branches.
