Abstract

Método que comprende proporcionar al menos un compuesto químico de carburo sólido y la reducción de un catión metálico con el uso del compuesto químico de carburo sólido. Un método que comprende la producción de material de carbono elemental a partir de la oxidación de carburo en al menos un compuesto químico de carburo (por ejemplo, carburo de calcio) en al menos un ánodo de un aparato de celda electroquímica, tal como un aparato de celda galvánica. El cátodo puede ser una variedad de metales tales como zinc o estaño. La reacción se puede llevar a cabo a temperatura ambiente y presión normal. También se puede aplicar un voltaje externo, y se pueden producir diferentes formas de carbono dependiendo de los reactivos utilizados y del voltaje aplicado. Para llevar a cabo el método, un aparato comprende al menos una celda galvánica que comprende: al menos un ánodo que comprende al menos un compuesto químico de carburo, y al menos un cátodo. Para llevar cabo el método y construir el aparato, una estructura de electrodos comprende al menos un compuesto químico de carburo, en donde el compuesto químico de carburo es un carburo tipo salino; y al menos un elemento conductor de electrones diferente del carburo. También se preparan composiciones de carbono de diversas formas mediante los métodos y aparatos y con el uso de la estructura de electrodo. Se pueden producir grandes piezas de carbono puro. Se pueden llevar acabo el procesamiento del carbono posterior a la reacción, tal como, por ejemplo, una exfoliación.
