Abstract

Se describe un sulfato de condroitina (CS) de bajo peso molecular (1000-5000 daltons) producido por sulfatación química y subsiguiente despolimerización de un esqueleto de condroitina no sulfatado, obtenido con técnicas de biotecnología; el CS descrito es sustancialmente monosulfatado, principalmente en la posición 6, con muy poca sulfatación en la posición 4, y con una proporción de disacárido mono/disulfatado y densidad de carga similares al CS natural; dicho 6-sulfato de condroitina biotecnológico (C6S) es útil en el tratamiento y prevención de la osteoartritis y en procesos inflamatorios agudos y crónicos.
