Description
本出願は、2017年4月28日に出願された米国仮特許出願第62/491,301号、および2017年5月24日に出願された米国仮特許出願第62/510,315号の優先権を主張し、その各々はその全体が本明細書に組み込まれる。
本発明は、紙または板紙基材をコーティングするのに適したコーティング組成物に関する。具体的には、本発明は、基板に塗布されると水、脂および油に耐性があるバリアコーティング組成物に関する。
紙および板紙などのセルロース系材料に基づく包装製品および容器は、油、脂、水、および他の液体を通す。ワックス、ポリマー、フッ化炭素等のようなコーティングで紙および板紙をコーティングまたは処理するのが通例である。コーティングは、食品または保護を必要とする他の製品を包装するために不可欠なバリア性を与える。いくつかの用途では、コーティングはヒートシール性である必要がある。
a)5wt%~90wt%の1つまたは複数のアクリルポリマーもしくはコポリマーエマルジョンと、
b)2wt%~25wt%の1つまたは複数の溶融ワックスと、
c)5wt%~85wt%の水と
を含み、堆肥化可能である、ヒートシール性水系コーティング組成物を提供する。
a)第1の表面および第2の表面を有する基材を提供することと、
b)本発明のヒートシール性コーティング組成物を提供することと、
c)ヒートシール性コーティング組成物を、基材の第1の表面、または第2の表面、または第1の表面および第2の表面の両方に塗布することと、
d)コーティングを、コーティング中のワックスを溶かすのに十分な温度で加熱することであって、溶けたワックスは紙繊維に浸透する、加熱することと、
e)圧力を印加することによって基材を封止することと
を含み、ヒートシール性バリアコーティングは堆肥化可能である、基材をコーティングする方法を提供する。

本出願では、単数の使用は、具体的に別段の定めがない限り、複数を含む。本明細書で使用される場合、単数形「a」、「an」および「the」は、文脈が明確に他を示さない限り、複数形を同様に含むことが意図される。
本発明のコーティング組成物は、1つまたは複数のアクリルポリマーもしくはコポリマーエマルジョンを含む。溶融ワックスとアクリルポリマーエマルジョンの混合は、環境に配慮したコーティングのヒートシール性、オーバープリント性、およびバリア性を改善する。
以下の実施例は、本発明の特定の態様を説明し、いかなる点においてもその範囲を限定することを意図せず、そのように解釈されるべきではない。
コーティング組成物を、12g/m2の乾燥重量のコーティング重量で板紙基材の片側(内側)に塗布した。基材をカップに成形した。
コーティング組成物を使用して、カップの内部および外部の両方に本発明のコーティング組成物を有するカップを作製した。コーティング組成物を、12g/m2の乾燥重量のフィルム重量でクレーコート板紙基材の内部表面に塗布した。印刷された板紙を、約1~2秒間、600℃の熱源から約2インチに配置した。板紙を、当該技術分野で既知の技術を使用してカップに成形した。それに続くコーティング操作で、コーティング組成物を、4g/m2の乾燥重量のフィルム重量で基材の外部表面に塗布した。実施例7のコーティングされたカップは、大量包装ラインの高い速度および低い温度特性で封止した。初期の端部保護結果は実施例6と同様であった。
Claims (12)
- a)第1の表面および第2の表面を有する基材を提供することと、
b)i)5wt%~90wt%の1つまたは複数のアクリルポリマーもしくはコポリマーエマルジョンと、ii)2wt%~25wt%の1つまたは複数の溶融ワックスと、iii)5wt%~85wt%の水とを含む、ヒートシール性水系コーティング組成物を提供することと、
c)前記ヒートシール性コーティング組成物を、前記基材の前記第1の表面、または前記第2の表面、または前記第1の表面および前記第2の表面の両方に塗布することと、
d)前記コーティングを、前記コーティング中の前記ワックスを溶かすのに十分な温度で加熱することであって、前記溶けたワックスは紙繊維に浸透する、加熱することと、
e)圧力を印加することによって前記基材を封止することと
を含み、前記ヒートシール性バリアコーティングは堆肥化可能である、基材をコーティングする方法。 - 前記基材はセルロース系基材である、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記ヒートシール性水系バリアコーティングの複数の層が前記基材に塗布される、請求項1又は2に記載の方法。
- 前記コーティングは、グラビア印刷、フレキソコーティング、カーテンコーティング、フラッドコーティング、またはマイヤーバー塗布によって塗布される、請求項1から3のいずれかに記載の方法。
- 前記コーティングは2g/m2~15g/m2の乾燥コーティング重量で塗布される、請求項1から4のいずれかに記載の方法。
- 前記コーティング組成物は前記基材の前記第1の表面にフラッドコーティングとして塗布され、その後、前記コーティングは、前記第2の表面の封止端部をコーティングしないでおき、前記封止部中へのワックスの浸透を可能にするように位置合わせした前記第2の表面に塗布される、請求項1から5のいずれかに記載の方法。
- ワックス非含有の前記基材にコーティングを塗布することをさらに含む、請求項1から6のいずれかに記載の方法。
- 前記溶融ワックスは40℃~100℃の融点を有する、請求項1から7のいずれかに記載の方法。
- 前記1つまたは複数の溶融ワックスは、パラフィンワックス、アクリルグラフトパラフィンワックス、結晶性ワックス、ポリエチレンワックス、高密度ポリエチレンワックス、ポリエチレン/ポリテトラフルオロエチレンワックス、カルナバワックス、およびそれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される、ならびに/または、前記1つまたは複数のアクリルポリマーもしくはコポリマーエマルジョンは、純アクリルポリマー、エチレンアクリル酸コポリマー、ビニルアクリル酸コポリマー、スチレン-アクリルコポリマー、およびそれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される、請求項1から8のいずれかに記載の方法。
- 前記ヒートシール性水系コーティング組成物は接着促進剤、光安定剤、脱気添加剤、流動促進剤、消泡剤、酸化防止剤、安定剤、湿潤剤、界面活性剤、クレー、フィラー、分散剤、可塑剤、レオロジー添加剤、他のワックス、シリコーン、着色剤、およびそれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される1つまたは複数の添加剤をさらに含む、請求項1から9のいずれかに記載の方法。
- 前記ヒートシール性水系コーティング組成物はバリアコーティング組成物であり、液体および蒸気の浸透に耐性がある、請求項1から10のいずれかに記載の方法。
- 前記ヒートシール性水系コーティング組成物はリサイクル可能であり、生分解性であり、堆肥化可能である、請求項1から11のいずれかに記載の方法。
