Abstract

A heat-sealable water vapour-impermeable flexible sheet material comprises a flexible base sheet coated on each side with a heat-sealable coating composition in which the composition of each coating is selected so that the coating on the first side has a fusion temperature above the heat seal temperature of the coating on the second side, the coating on the first side is heat-sealable with the coating on the second side and at least one of the coatings comprises a vinylidene chloride copolymer. Specified base sheets are paper, regenerated cellulose, polypropylene, poly-4-methyl pentene-1, nylon, polycarbonate and polyethylene terephthalate. The vinylidene chloride may be copolymerised with acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, methyl acrylate or ethyl acrylate optionally in the presence of itaconic acid, mesaconic acid, citraconic acid or acrylic acid. The second coating may comprise a vinylidene chloride copolymer or a vinylacetatevinylchloride copolymer.
