Description
式(I):(I 100 +I 110 )/(I 100 +I 110 +I 002 +I 004 )
表2に示すような粒子径およびヒンクレーの結晶度指数のカオリナイトをコーディエライト化原料の一成分とし、さらに、タルクなどを表1に示すような配合の比率で混合することで、実施例1〜7および比較例1〜5のコーディエライト化原料バッチ得た。なお、実施例6の原料カオリナイトは、実施例5の原料カオリナイトを粉砕処理したものを用いた。また、混合したコーディエライト化原料に対して、有機バインダーとしてメチルセルロースを5.0質量%、界面活性剤を0.5質量%の割合にて添加した。表1は、実施例1〜7および比較例1〜5の原料の調合組成(質量%)をあらわした表である。
続いて、実施例1〜7および比較例1〜5のコーディエライト化原料バッチを用い、通常の押出成形手法にしたがって直径11が70mm、長さ12が102mm、隔壁3の厚さが150μm、1cm2あたりのセル2数が約62個のハニカム構造体を押出成形した(図7)。次いで、これにより得た押出成形体を乾燥した後、1430℃で5時間の焼成を行うことでコーディエライト質ハニカム構造体1を得た。
先述の方法により得た実施例1〜7および比較例1〜5のコーディエライト質ハニカム構造体1を評価する指標として、マイクロクラック幅、ハニカム構造の隔壁面に平行な方向に対するコーディエライト結晶のc軸方向の配向度(Cd配向度)、気孔率、および熱膨張係数を取り上げた。実施例1〜7および比較例1〜5の評価の結果を表2および図2〜図5のグラフにて示す。以下にそれぞれ指標に関する評価の結果を述べる。
Claims (4)
- カオリナイトと5質量%以下のシリカとを含むコーディエライト化原料を成形して焼成するコーディエライトセラミックスの製造方法において、
平均粒子径が1〜6μmであり、積層不整の程度をあらわすヒンクレーの結晶度指数が0.7以下である前記カオリナイトを原料として用い、
前記コーディエライトセラミックスの気孔率が25%以上で、40〜800℃の平均熱膨張係数が0.30×10−6/℃以下であり、X線回折積分ピーク強度I hkl を下記式(I)に当てはめて算出されるコーディエライト結晶の配向度が0.90以上であり、
前記コーディエライトセラミックスの表面または任意の断面におけるマイクロクラックの幅の平均値が0.3μm以上であるのものを得る、
コーディエライトセラミックスの製造方法。

表面または任意の断面におけるマイクロクラックの幅の平均値が0.3μm以上であり、
前記平均熱膨張係数が0.08×10 −6 〜0.27×10 −6 /℃であり、
前記配向度が0.91〜0.94である、
